Materials of Construction

  • Body: Aluminum alloy (67CFR) or Stainless steel (67CFSR)
  • Filter: Standard 40-micron element, optional 10-micron
  • Diaphragm: Nitrile rubber (standard), FKM (NACE service)
  • Trim: Soft-seated cartridge design

Special Features

  • Built-in Filter: Removes water, oil, and particulate from supply air
  • Internal Relief Valve: Handles minor seat leakage (not primary overpressure protection)
  • Smart Bleed™ Technology: Zero air loss during normal operation
  • Compact Design: Lightweight, space-saving for small systems
  • NACE Compliance: Stainless steel models meet NACE MR0175/MR0103 for sour gas service

Fisher 67CFR Troubleshooting Guide

Symptom 1: Zero or Very Low Outlet Pressure

Step 1: Check Supply Pressure

  • Verify inlet pressure exceeds minimum requirement (10-15 psi)
  • Confirm upstream shutoff valve is fully open
  • Check for upstream pressure drops or blockages

Step 2: Clean or Replace Filter Element

The 67CFR incorporates a built-in 40-micron filter (10-micron optional). Contaminated media causes filter clogging.

  1. Close inlet and outlet isolation valves
  2. Open drain port to depressurize
  3. Remove and inspect filter element
  4. Clean or replace as necessary

Step 3: Inspect Valve Plug and Seat

Foreign particles may jam the plug in the closed position.

  • Disassemble valve body
  • Remove debris from internal passages
  • Inspect plug and seat for damage

Symptom 2: Unstable or Fluctuating Outlet Pressure

Step 1: Verify Flow Requirements

Downstream demand fluctuations exceeding rated capacity (30 Nm³/h) cause response lag in direct-acting regulators.

Step 2: Inspect Diaphragm

Diaphragm fatigue or micro-cracks cause pressure oscillation.

  • Remove spring case cover
  • Inspect diaphragm for deformation or cracks
  • Replace diaphragm assembly if damaged

Step 3: Check Vent Port

The 1/4 NPT spring case vent must remain unobstructed for proper diaphragm pressure balance.

  • Inspect vent for oil, grease, or dust accumulation
  • Clean thoroughly with appropriate solvent

Symptom 3: Outlet Pressure Exceeds Setpoint (Cannot Reduce)

Step 1: Examine Regulating Spring

  • Check for broken or deformed spring
  • Verify handwheel adjustment mechanism operates freely
  • Replace spring or repair adjustment screw if damaged

Step 2: Check for Plug Sticking

Plug jammed in open position due to contamination or bent stem.

  • Disassemble and clean all internal components
  • Check stem straightness with dial indicator
  • Replace bent or worn stems
Important Safety Note: The internal relief valve handles only minor seat leakage. It does NOT serve as primary overpressure protection. Install a separate safety relief valve for protection against excessive inlet pressure.

Symptom 4: Continuous Leakage (Vent or Connection Points)

Step 1: Replace Soft Seat

The 67CFR uses soft-seated cartridge design. Long-term operation causes seat wear.

  • Replace complete plug cartridge assembly
  • No need for individual seat lapping

Step 2: Check Threaded Connections

  • Apply soap solution to all 1/4 NPT connections
  • Tighten or reseal with PTFE tape as needed

Step 3: Verify Smart Bleed™ Operation

Smart Bleed models vent slightly when inlet pressure drops below outlet pressure. Continuous venting at normal pressure indicates internal relief seat damage.

Quick Diagnostic Checklist

Fault Symptom Most Likely Cause Quick Action
Zero outlet pressure Clogged filter / Low supply pressure Clean/replace filter, adjust upstream pressure
Pressure fluctuation Diaphragm crack / Blocked vent Clear vent port, replace diaphragm
Cannot reduce pressure Plug sticking / Spring failure Disassemble and clean, replace spring
Continuous vent leakage Worn soft seat Replace cartridge assembly

Maintenance & Repair Procedures

Safety Precautions

  1. Close upstream and downstream isolation valves
  2. Open drain valve to completely depressurize
  3. Confirm zero pressure before disassembly
  4. Never service under pressure

Spare Parts & Replacement

Recommended Spare Parts

Part Description Part Number Application
Nitrile diaphragm 10B8735X012 Standard air/nitrogen service
Stem O-ring 1D687506992 All models
Diaphragm cavity O-ring 17A2325X022 All models
Plug cartridge assembly RDXCNTRM142 67CFR-224/225/226/237/239
Regulating spring (0-60 psi) 12A8818X012 Standard range models
Repair kit (soft parts) RPACKX00042 1/4 NPT models
NACE Service Note: Stainless steel models (67CFSR series) require FKM (fluorocarbon) spare parts for NACE MR0175 sour gas compliance. Standard nitrile parts will degrade rapidly in acidic service.

Calibration Procedure

  1. Connect standard pressure source and 0.2% accuracy test gauge to outlet
  2. Fully counterclockwise handwheel to release spring force
  3. Slowly open upstream supply
  4. Clockwise adjust handwheel in 3-5 steps across selected range
  5. Record actual vs. set pressure at each point
  6. Adjust stem travel if deviation exceeds tolerance
  7. Verify stability with 2-3 repeat cycles
  8. Seal unused vent ports after completion
